dovecot-core software package provides secure mail server that supports mbox, maildir, dbox and mdbox mailboxes, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install dovecot-core
dovecot-core is installed in your system.
Make ensure the dovecot-core package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep dovecot-core *
You will get with dovecot-core package name, version, architecture and description in a table
